Thank you Adam for this write-up. I am often asked about how it is that Israelis - given their geopolitical reality - manage to be among the happiest populations in the world according to that sort of data. And the main reason I can come up with is that incredible communal bond that becomes so obvious during conflict, and manifests itself in things like the Dizengoff garage shelter. And while it is less apparent among the loud, cantankerous populous at other times, it continues to bind the Israeli society in less visible, but equally strong bonds that are a prime factor to Israel's success as a society.

Very interesting article. I would wager that 95%…or more of the “outside” world wouldn’t be aware of the conditions or people’s reactions to the conditions of “war” or bombings. Ver insightful. 👍

The dreadful reality of war. …. fuelled by hate…. as a result of religion.

( ie…..Your god is wrong……..while my god is the real one? Heck…. are all religions not the same? Is this what will ultimately destroy ALL signs of human life on this planet?

As it now stands many powerful nations have intercontinental ballistic missiles ….

pointed at “their enemy”. Once a button is pushed to release ALL of those missiles toward the country that they see as “the enemy”………AND …. while those missiles are in flight…. the opposing nation will do the same. Then.. of course….. let’s not forget the nuclear subs, armed with multi nuclear war heads …. lurking quietly off shore will take the same “defensive action.

Now while all f this is going on…… the most lethal ….“engineered” deadly viruses will be released to finish us off. The world is NUTS. But one thing for sure is that it will start quick and end quick…. not like what has been described here of life in Israel during the threat.

That’s the reality of the situation……..however……..have a good day folks.

Annie Jacobsen is the author of a book, Nuclear War. It is sobering, especially the timelines for such an event. Its over real fast, with nothing left as we knew it.

The war between Islamic Middle Eastern countries and Israel has always been a holy war. Apparently Islam has a saying, “Take back what was taken from you”. They simply cannot abide infidels on ‘their’ land.
