These same networks can be used to deliver any type of chemical weapon having a wide variety of physiological and neurological effects beyond opioids and stimulants. As the war with the China-Russia-Iran-North Korea axis against the West mounts, they’ll no doubt attempt to keep it sub-threshold for as long as possible. They’re already weaponizing both legal and illegal supply chains, and testing our defences. Detection, identification, and characterization of these chemical weapons is paramount.
Ex. Consider a future scenario:
the cocaine supply chains is intentionally contaminated with a novel neurotoxic chemical that causes mild/unnoticeable single dose neurotoxic effects, but cumulative neuronal damage over time. I am contemplating the Merry-Go-Round is now visible. I have no expertise here -- just questions. Decades of high opioid prescribing in parts of North America created a large population with opioid tolerance. And, when prescription access tightened, some individuals turned to unregulated markets.
The combination of low production cost, ease of concealment, high addictive potential, and disrupted legal opioid supply chains -- enabled these synthetic opioids to proliferate widely, with devastating Public Health consequences.
I kinda believe we need to contemplate upon such consequences. If it is all about "Pain Management" in the broadest terms -- diabolical Drug Cartels can replace themselves as fast as illicit drug facilities can replace drug busts.
