Sorry to be blunt, but this type of article, although accurate leaves me asking' for a solution. If NATO is so aware of all this then why has nothing been done? ' Answer (opinion) NATO is an inside the box, tax-payer funded think tank. They think, have meetings, write articles, go out for dinner, rinse and repeat.
Trump is an Outside the Box thinker who is figuring out, and then acting, to actually get things done. He is focused on the Monroe Doctrine and his National Security Strategy.
His focus is Make America Great Again. To that aim, he is avoiding war by acting strategically. It's not rocket science. Why is 'everyone' having a hissy fit? Many other countries will do well too if they just quit criticizing and watch, listen and learn.
How long will it be before mankind …. destroys ALL civilization on the planet?
That is the direction we are headed in this very dangerous era.
Now…. it’s the Arctic area of the planet!…… once a forbidden … no man’s land as the Franklin Expedition and his men found out.
I’m familiar with most of the Canadian Arctic area. having flown it …(1963 to 1966) INCLUDING staying at a number of the DEW Line sites. For sure it will be an extremely costly undertaking to establish NATO security in the area…. but now…. looks like it’s necessary.

Having spent 6 years on taskings to the Arctic while serving in the CAF, I can say with absolute certainty, Canada cannot in any way, defend the Arctic.
The Arctic has extreme cold weather conditions, didn't Napoleon end his military carry with an attemp at a cold weather take over? And why is the Arctic of such concern when everyone gets along on what to do with Antarctica ( that belongs to no one)?
